THE AWARD

The «vfg Young Talent Award for Photography» (NWFP), which was awarded between 1997 and 2022, is a piece of Swiss photographic history – which is now being continued by the SIYU AWARD.

The SIYU AWARD focuses on exciting, interesting and impressive photographic works, which are reviewed and evaluated by the jury and selected for the group exhibition (ten works).

Thanks to the Alois Ottiger Grant, established in memory of Swiss photographer Alois Ottiger, the association and the SIYU AWARD project team are delighted to be able to award prestigious prizes and grants from 2026 onwards. The SIYU AWARD thus makes an important and lasting contribution to promoting young talent in the field of photography.

The organisers

The SIYU AWARD is organised by the association of the same name. It is managed by a team of five people from different areas of photography.

Susanne Martínez García

(project management, organisation) moves professionally between text and image. She has worked as a journalist/reporter/editor, advertising copywriter and also briefly as a photographer and completed her studies in Basel in 2011 as an art historian/Hispanist with an MA.

Lea Della Zassa

 (organisation) is a freelance photographer and image editor who specialises mainly in portrait and reportage photography.

Clara Neugebauer  

(organisation) is a freelance photographer based in Zurich. After completing her training as a photojournalist at the MAZ, the trained graphic designer specialised in reportage and portrait photography.

Frederik van den Berg  

(organisation, communication, fundraising) works as a photographer with a focus on travel and nature reportage. His projects explore living landscapes and traces of human presence in nature.

Aline Wagner and Adriano Diethelm

(graphic design, social media, realisation): founded the graphic design agency monikaa in 2015 during their studies at the FHNW HGK in Basel. They plan, develop and design large and small: from books and posters to spatial graphics. Their interests lie in precise typography, strong imagery and high-quality execution - all of which will decisively shape the image of the SIYU AWARD.
