For Alois Ottiger (1941–2025), photography was much more than a profession: it was a lifelong passion. For the Zug-based photographer, it provided scope for experimentation, served as a means of documentation on his travels and enabled him to interact with local people. This resulted not only in several impressive art books, but also in projects with a philanthropic dimension.
Â
Following an inspiration, developing an idea from it and implementing it photographically – this is what the newly created «Alois Ottiger Grant» aims to enable young Swiss photographers to do. The siblings of the late Zug-based photographer are making a substantial contribution to the annual SIYU AWARD in his name. This support will cover production costs for all ten finalists, award prizes to three winners and co-finance a catalogue.

The «Alois Ottiger Grant» is designed as a long-term commitment. It reflects the donors’ desire to promote young photographers and photographic artists in the most sustainable and effective way possible.
